Alhumdulillah means “All Praise is due to God” and are the words uttered by a Muslim when he/she is expressing gratitude to Allah. I find myself saying this numerous times a day and this post is a collection of moments when I have said Alhumdulillah during the past month.

Things I said Alhumdulillah for in March:

  1. We did it, Alhumdulillah. We have bought a house! It was one of our biggest goals when we moved from Dubai to the UK last year. Remember that thing I kept teasing about in my previous monthly gratitude blog posts about being in the works, well we finally got the keys to our first UK home on the 1st of March and we couldn’t be more happy and thankful. It has been months in the making, with many a house viewings, many heartbreaks and a lot of hard work.
  2. Packing and unpacking our belongings for hopefully the last time for a very long time. I still can not believe I have gone through the process of packing and unpacking 5 times in the space of 1 year. If I am asked to pack another cardboard box again, I will probably go through some form of PTSD.
  3. Attending a birthday party of my friend’s son in London followed by a touristic drive through Central before heading back home.
  4. Bright yellow daffodils adorning all the streets as well as lots in our front garden accompanied by the hope and promise of warmer weather and more sunshine.
  5. The month of Ramadan. Though it has come at the time of a huge change once again, as last Ramadan we were in the middle of an International move, and this time it’s a house move, I am so thankful for all our blessings and being able to witness another Ramadan with my loved ones. Also, the joy on the kid’s faces as they open their “Rocks & Minerals” Ramadan calendar each day to discover a new shiny rock is priceless. Very niche hahaha, but still priceless.
  6. The boys helping me make the date balls to break our fast with.
  7. A successful attempt at making Chicken stuffed bread buns for Iftar. I am loving trying out new recipes during Ramadan.
  8. Listening to my father make dua for Barakah as we prayed Quran and Asr Salah for the first time in our new home during the “Quran Khaani” (House Blessing), and having our loved ones around us. Such a special moment.
  9. Not killing my spouse whilst fixing new furniture and doing other DIY bits.
  10. The school end of term holidays during the last two weeks of Ramadan, giving some much needed ease in our schedules.
  11. My parents and baby brother leaving for Umrah during the month of Ramadan.
