The Second Trimester with Second Baby…
I waved goodbye to the second trimester last week, and have lots to fill you in on. If you haven’t already, you can have a read about my First Trimester with Second Baby here. Before I divulge more details, if I had to sum up this second trimester in one word, it would be …TIRING! So with that in mind, let’s get to it…
Baby Bump…
The Baby Bump has definitely grown, but very much like my last pregnancy, it is a rather small bump as far as baby bumps go. And although this has been brought to my attention by many a folk, I think it ultimately fits in rather well with my body figure. It doesn’t help of course that due to my modest wear being rather loose, you could often mistake me for not being pregnant at all!
My belly button has also become very much an outie, and personally I find it kind of freaky. Is it normal to feel this way about seeing your belly button protrude out in such a bashful manner? My husband finds it hilarious, but I just try to not look at it! ha!
Baby brain…
This is a real thing! And although I was still suffering from it before the conception of the second baby, it now seems to be worse! I forget the most random things, only to be deeply embarrassed and apologise profusely for it later on. I would like to think the effects will wear off eventually, but now that I am going to be a second time mother, I know they very much won’t.
Name wars…
My husband and I have been at log heads in regards to choosing a name for the second baby. Before we knew the gender, we knew the name we wanted if it was one of the two genders, but were clueless about the other gender. As God would have it, the baby’s gender is the one we didn’t have a name chosen already for, so after weeks and months of trolling the internet we have both come to like very different names. I also asked you over on Instagram to provide me with some name inspiration, to which you all very kindly responded with so many beautiful names. However, strangely enough, not one of you has mentioned the two names that my husband and I are adamant on.
This has led to numerous fruitless discussions and persuasive arguments with me generally retorting to “Well, I am growing the baby, so surely I can name it!”. To be honest, I am kind of coming around to his chosen name, but of course I will not admit it just yet, and see if I can perhaps turn this situation to my advantage. Hehe. #evilwife
Leg cramps…
These have come much sooner this time around, and are back with a vengeance. I am trying my best to ensure I keep my feet a little raised when sleeping to avoid such issues as well as swelling, so if you have any other tips, please do send them my way. Because leg cramps hurt like a WITCH!
Energy Levels…
As I mentioned at the start of this post, I am tired. SO. SO. TIRED. Mostly at the end of the day, when I just have to plonk myself on the bed, and moving in any kind of way after that means that I make the most tremendous whale noises of apprehension. I am sure I only felt this way at the end of the third trimester with my first born, but this time the tiredness has come early.
There have been times when I have also been feeling very guilty about not having the energy to run around and play with Master Z like I used to. My husband is so supportive when I blub incoherently about this in between tears of mummy guilt to him. I have been trying to make up for this by doing more of sit down activities like reading to him when I can and spending time talking to him before bed every night.
So seeing as I am already pretty wiped out, the next trimester should be heaps of fun…

Skincare Routine…
I have been incredibly strict this time in regards to skincare and even generally trying to take better care of myself, whilst I can! I know that having a second baby is going to completely change the existing dynamics, but this time I do not want to completely crucify myself in the name of motherhood. If there is one thing I have learnt from being a mother to Master Z, it is that happy mother means a happy child, and that is the motto I will be taking forward to my next child too.
Going back to my pregnancy skin routine, I have been absolutely loving smothering Palmer’s products all over myself, and so far haven’t seen any new stretchmarks appear. The previous ones do seem occasionally angrier, and I am sure new ones will come as I near the end of my pregnancy, just like they did last time. You can read all about the products I have been using to keep my skin soft and supple here.
Food Cravings…
To be honest, there haven’t been any urgent food cravings that I absolutely must have at any cost, but I have found that I am steering towards the more savoury items. This is quite a shock as I am generally a sweet tooth, and also craved for sweet food in my first pregnancy. Also, it doesn’t help that I am currently watching The Great British Bake Off, so my cravings are usually determined by the theme they have for that week. Pastry Week was a killer.
Apart from that, I have been told to devour plentiful of cheese and fruits to fatten up the baby, and I am doing so, eating slices of white cheddar with my breakfast and making my own mini quesadillas for tea time. I may or may not carry on this behaviour after having the baby too.
Overall…
As much as I have complained in this post, I know that I am having a very blessed pregnancy compared to many other ladies, and I am happy and thankful to know that ultimately, the little bean-turned-cabbage sized human in my tummy is healthy and growing rapidly. The rather strong punches and kicks are surely proof of that, Alhumdulillah. Also, as tired as I am half of the time, this pregnancy has already zoomed by so quickly, and I can not believe I am already now on the last stretch. I will be meeting the little one very soon, and my family and I are beyond excited!
Hopefully, I will be back with a post regarding my Third Trimester in a couple of weeks.
