Parents versus Parents…
There seems to be a huge competition between parents. Judging each other on the milestones that their offspring have reached has become a normal practice. We all do it but what do we gain from it?
I was unaware of the extent of this competition until I became pregnant and began baby related conversations with friends and family. Although I have read many times that each baby is unique, I have heard just as many times all the questions or statements about whether my baby has done this or that by the particular age. Apart from milestones, things such as breast/bottle-feeding or sleeping techniques are widely debated and apparently each parent’s method is the correct way of doing it.
We are all so quick to judge each other’s methods and choices, without sparing a thought to the parent that we too were in the same position once. Upon much pondering, I believe the reason we are so fierce about our parenting techniques is because we all have one thing in common. Our eternal and raging love towards our little ones.
I am thankful to say that although I have been judged for my choices and absent mindedly also judged others, I have also witnessed the true friendship and support that is offered by parents. Much of this has been found through social media, forums and the wonderful world of blogging.
We as parents must not forget that although we have made a decision that we think is best, that is down to the characteristic of our child. Another parent’s child need not conform to that same decision because every child is unique, and so is every parent. What we have in common is our love for the children and that is all that really matters.
I am so grateful for the supportive systems around me that drown out the parental judgements and hope they continue to give me strength as well as other parents that could do with a “Wow, you must be so proud of your baby!” rather than a “Are you still breastfeeding him?!?” We are all mothers and we need to stick together!
I will end this post with a video that pretty much explains my sentiments.

This is a great post. I’m also lucky enough to have a huge support network around me but there’s always going to be people in the background comparing your child and your parenting methods. I keep my mentality of doing what’s best for me and my baby girl x
Thankyou for your encouragement. We all need to simply realise that we are on the same team!
I love this video, seen it awhile back and still gets me everytime. Support each other without any judgement. It’s not bottle versus breast, it’s what works for you and your family, SIMPLE!
So happy to hear you had great support, great post too!
Thanks! Yeah I love the message of that video!
Check out #mommitment if you haven’t already. A great movement along th same vein.

Thanks! Will check it out!
I love this video and feel just the same as you. I wish all Mums would see it. If we all brought children up the same way the World would be a boring place! #Matern
Thanks and I totally agree!
Oops my phone was playing up. I meant to type #MummyMonday
Haha I thought so!
this is a great post, I never really had a support group or anything with other people who had children. But I know that I always worried on certain things like Corey took a long time to walk but then he talked much quicker than other children. Each child is different so I always tried to remember that but at times it was hard. Really loved this post though 🙂
thankyou for joining in with #mummymonday – love Gemma – host xo

Thankyou for reading and your lovely comment! Yeah I think its ery easy to fall into the pit of comparing our children but we have to to look past that and cherish that our children will reach their milestones in their own time.
Brilliant post hun…I know all to well about competing with each other. I am also to blame but there are some that a far to competitive! X
