Iftar at Trèsind – Review 2019…

When I think of Indian Fine Dining in Dubai, there is only one restaurant that comes to mind, and that of course is Trèsind. Having now been to the restaurant countless times, it is clear that Chef Himanshu Saini simply does not disappoint with each new season of creative gastronomy.

However, the last time I was there for an Iftar was back in 2016, and so when Trèsind invited me to review this year’s Indian Steakhouse Iftar Menu, I was very much intrigued to see how it would compare to my last Iftar experience.

Ambiance at Trèsind…

I am in absolute love with Trèsind’s new aesthetics. The dark navy blue walls, with the sofas that add a pop of colour and texture work so beautifully well together. The wooden window shutters give an almost colonial touch to the space, and the ambiance created via the lighting is cosy and welcoming. The restaurant also has a separate section on the left side that includes the Bar area, but the theme of comfortable seating and warm lighting continues.

Starters…

To break our fast, Trèsind offered up a couple of starters along with some freshly squeezed orange juice served at our table. However, simple dates wouldn’t just cut it here at this restaurant. Instead, it was dates filled with popping sugar candy wrapped in an edible wrapper (yes, you read that right, edible!) that was our first taste of the culinary delights to come.

The next set of amusebouche dishes was the watermelon feta salad, the penne papad with tomato salsa and my favourite, the crispy okra with yoghurt dip. All were incredibly enticing and delicious, and had me craving for seconds!

Meat Board…

The Meat Board was the next set of dishes to be sent our way, and having been asked to pick our knife of choice for the occasion before they arrived, we were ready.

We enjoyed the beef tikki in lettuce wrap with jalapeno and cheese (yes, it sure has a kick to it), followed by their homemade chicken sausage seekh kebab, charcoal chicken kebab, preserved in lemon aioli and tandoori lamb chop with green chilli and olive tapenade. However, it was the katsu pao sandwich (pictured below) with peanut ketchup that was a clear winner with meat so succulent, it dissolved within seconds.

The Mains…

Who doesn’t love a bit of table side live cooking? We sure do! Whilst we had the butter pepper garlic prawns cooked live in front of us, the rest of the mains were also plated up: including the tenderloin wagyu steak with tandoori jus and spicy harissa, followed by bamboo biryani, a slow cooked pot nihari served with khamiri roti and parmesan crusted chicken steak with korma sauce and torched asparagus, which was definitely my favourite from the lot.

From the taste to the presentation, everything was so well thought out and put together, and simply delectable. It was an Iftar that just kept giving, in terms of food, hospitality and surprises.

Dessert…

To end the Iftar on a sweet note, we were given two dessert dishes. The first was textures of mango, a dish true to its name with the taste of mango in so many different elements and textures, with the melt-in-your-mouth mango and passion fruit souffle in the middle of it all.

This was followed by the deconstructed baklava, created in front of our eyes, as can be seen in the video below. What a delight this was for all our senses, especially the crushing of rose petals at the end. This one is for the pistachio lovers, an incredibly light and sweet way to end the iftar that just kept on giving.

The look of joy on my face says it all about the kind of experience we had at Trèsind. I highly recommend it to all those that are not only looking to simply eat an Iftar, but also enjoy an unforgettable dining experience, giving you full value for money.

The menu is available from dusk onwards, throughout the month of Ramadan 2019 for AED 179 (inclusive of all taxes and charges).
