So Eid-ul-Fitr has come and gone and I am just about recovering from the hangover of food and sugar overload. Let me jump right in and share with you how my family and I spent our Eid.

Day 1: 

Eid Prayers were bright and early at 6 am. (I will never get used to this. Back in UK, they were at the grand old relaxed time of 9 am!) This meant of course that the men had to be up by 4 am, and the ladies soon followed. Baby Z woke up at 5 am to see what all the fuss was about, and so I proceeded to get him bathed and ready in his Thob. He looked ever so handsome.

Breakfast was prepared, and the Eid Namaz were offered. I love the Takbir that rings out in the early morning which creates an exciting ambiance. Once the men returned from the mosque, we tucked into the specially prepared Eid breakfast, including Doodh Khurmo. (Eid is incomplete without it!)

Around 9 am we made our way to the graveyard to pay respects to my late father-in-law. A humbling experience as always. We returned home to catch up on some sleep. Baby Z was zonked out and didn’t wake up until after lunch, which meant that we had lunch in PEACE after months! Miracles really do happen!

Lunch was yet another special feast, followed by lots more biscuits and baklavas. At about 4 pm we finally set off to Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi. We enjoyed a lovely evening, window shopping and taking plenty of photographs in our glad rags! We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Chili’s, that ended on a sweet note as we licked our plate clean of the Molten Lava Chocolate Cake. D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S.

Mr Z and I changed Baby Z into his night dress just before we left Yas Mall so that he could snuggle up in the car comfortably and get some shut eye. Mr Z’s idea worked a treat, as we were shattered by the time we returned home and could all simply fall into bed without chasing Baby Z around the house with trousers in our hands!

Day 2: 

Day 2 of Eid began with a much more relaxed morning, waking up at a more suitable time of 9 am. In the evening we set off to Mercato Mall in Dubai, which has the most beautiful architecture. There were a few circus acts on at the mall which provided endless entertainment for Baby Z.

I also had some sushi which was rather delicious, but was scoffed down by us all before I got a chance to take a photograph of it!

To end the day, we enjoyed a lovely meal at Arz Lebanon in Jumeirah (Their spicy Potato dish is to DIE for!) and we were supposed to watch the fireworks at the Beach. Except of course Mr Z had got the location confused with the beach at JBR, and so we only admired specks of fireworks from very very far away before heading home. It was still a lovely Eid nonetheless, though I think next time I will double check where the fireworks are taking place before we make our Eid plans. Baby Z enjoyed walking around the malls and we enjoyed eating the special Eid meals. Being together with my family is the most important thing, and I could not have asked for a better way to spend Eid.
