Dinner at Arrows & Sparrows- Review…
It was high time I paid a visit to Arrows & Sparrows. I sure had heard it being mentioned left, right and centre, so I was eager to find out what all the fuss was about. Nestled in the depths of The Greens in Dubai, this cafe aims to create an environment that leaves you feeling inspired. So rather than just dropping by for a coffee, we enjoyed a family dinner at this cafe.
Interior…
Walking in, the cafe is a petite but open space, covered in greenery and terrariums where ever I looked. It was the stuff of Instgrammable dreams, and I am sure it looks even better at day time in the natural light. The interior is rustic and almost homely thanks to the greenery, with all the top hits playing softly in the back ground. All the ones I knew the words to and could whisper along as I bobbed my head, half reading the menu, half enjoying the music.
As soon as we stepped in and were given our menu cards, one of the members of staff brought along these two wooden hammer toys (pictured above) for Master Z to entertain himself with. As a parent looking to have a quiet tantrum-free meal, this was a very welcome gesture indeed, though I did have to wrangle the hammer out of his hands later on when he insisted to hitting the side of the chairs very loudly. ha!
Dinner at Arrows & Sparrows…
Master Z’s meal came almost right away after ordering, and he had opted for the Pumpkin Pasta (AED 22), or “Orange Pasta” as he likes to call it, and a side of Apple Juice (AED 15) from their brand new Kids Menu. It was a good sized portion for kids, and Master Z tucked in straight away, enjoying the cheese drizzled pasta with sweet bites of pumpkin in between.
Kids Eat Free…
The brand new Kids Menu at Arrows & Sparrows offers a range of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner dishes. These include breakfast dishes such as mini acai bowls, scrambled eggs, peanut butter and jelly on toasted sourdough, and delicious homemade lunch and dinner favourites like grilled chicken with cheesy mashed potato, pumpkin pasta, cheesy toast, and lots more! Kids can choose from Apple Juice, Orange Juice, Milk or Berry & Banana Milkshake as their drink.
Their ‘Kids eat free’ promotion is also currently valid on weekdays, from 2pm to 7pm. One child can order one lunch/dinner dish plus a drink from the kid’s menu, when accompanied by one adult ordering from the main menu.
Our dinner did take a little longer than expected to arrive. Myself and Master Z opted for the Peanut Chicken Salad (AED 36) to share for starters. This is a crunchy salad of carrots, fried egg noodles, lettuce, edamame beans, shredded chicken sprinkled with sesame seeds, peanuts, coriander, spring onions and a peanut butter dressing.
As much as I loved the crunch of this salad, I did find the dish to be a little dry for my taste and the peanut butter dressing quite overpowering. However, my husband on the other hand, absolutely loved the salad and wiped the plate clean!
For my main, I tucked into The Best Beef Ramen Soup (AED 55). This dish included ramen noodles with a home made broth, along with marinated beef striploin, snow peas, mise & soya sauce, spring onions, sesame seeds, shitake mushrooms, hard boiled egg, carrot, crab cake and nori seaweed.
Since I was just at the end of recovering from the winter flu, my tummy welcomed this hearty dish with open arms. Sipping on the broth sure had me going all warm and fuzzy inside, and I was rather impressed with a big portion. If you are into your Ramen, I would highly recommend you try out this dish.
Mr Z opted for quite the opposite by ordering the Chicken in Blanket (AED 44) which is a grilled chicken breast wrapped with Beef Prosciutto and sage, served with a home-made creamy spinach sauce made with Moliterno truffle cheese. He found the meat to be tender, and the sauce to be uniquely strong but complimentary to the dish.
Arrows & Sparrows offers a range of other salads, mains, sandwiches, breakfast items and cold & hot drinks. You can also choose from their selection of beautifully displayed desserts at the front of the cafe.
The cafe doubles up as a great work space or meeting spot to discuss things over tea and coffee, as well as being an eatery, so if you are in the area do make sure to check it out, if only to take an Instagram shot of yourself sipping coffee amongst the picture perfect terrariums! And if the little ones are accompanying you, why not avail the “Kids Eat Free” deal whilst it lasts!
