Things I said Alhumdulillah for in October…
Alhumdulillah means “All Praise is due to God” and are the words uttered by a Muslim when he/she is expressing gratitude to Allah. I find myself saying this numerous times a day and this post is a collection of moments when I have said Alhumdulillah during the past month.
Things I said Alhumdulillah for in October:
- Alhumdulillah for the privileged and blessed life we live, compared to the turmoil that the families in Palestine are facing. The images coming out of Gaza are horrific to bear, yet we have the privilege to turn off our social media when it gets too much. I pray Palestine gets freedom, there is ceasefire as soon as possible and find solace in the knowledge that the thousands of beautiful souls that are already lost are on their way to Jannah In sha Allah.
- Moving into our first rented property in the UK! The first week of October was all about unpacking all our belongings as well as that we had brought in cargo from Dubai. Reuniting with all our belongings that was stored away for about 6 months was emotional, yet at the same time I think I also came to the realisation that we do not need so many of the materialistic things we hoard.
- The boys starting their new school in the new neighbourhood we have moved to. Thankfully, it is only walking distance away so there is no more school traffic to deal with, long waiting times in the car or even finding the perfect parking spot near to the school.
- Attending my best friend’s sister’s wedding and seeing the lovely fireworks display for the bridge’s entrance. I am so glad I get to be part of these moments now that I am in the same continent as my friends!
- Attending the parent’s evening at the new school and getting lots of positive feedback. The boys have settled in so well and already made a bunch of friends. With so many changes, I know we have put our boys through a lot over the course of this year but every time they have shown up with bravery and resilience at whatever has come their way.
- Landing my first job in the UK! It is only a part time stint, allowing me to still balance work and family life but I think it will be a great exposure for me.
- Enjoying a trip to town with my boys followed by lunch at Yo Sushi! during their half term holidays.
- Baking cake…nothing like the smell of a great bake to fill up your home! Also, been really enjoying watching The Great British Bake off with my boys on the tele!
- Hosting dawats for family members at our new home and spending quality time with them.
- Enjoying a child free shopping and dinner date with the husband, whilst the kiddos had a Games Night with my cousins. As much as I love my boys to pieces, the peace of eating without any nagging and whinging was absolute bliss!! ha!
- Mr Z and the boys experiencing their first daylight savings time change (and my first after a decade!) where the clocks moved back an hour and gave us an extra hour in bed in the mornings. (Must remember: “Fall Back, Spring Forward”). This means that the day ends very quickly though as it gets dark earlier and earlier each night!
These are just a few of the many times I uttered the words Alhumdulillah this month. Check out what I was thankful for last month here. Also, here’s a list of what I was thankful for in October last year! What are you thankful for? Feel free to share your moments in the comments section below
